Isaiah 9:6 NIV
For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
Today we celebrate the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ. Immanuel. God with us. Wonderful Counselor. Mighty God. Everlasting Father. Prince of Peace.
Think about those attributes of our Lord. Meditate upon them as you remember that He was born of the Virgin Mary, humbly in a manger. He grew up as a carpenter’s son and then turned the world upside down with His ministry.
He then shook the very foundations of all creation by willingly going to the cross to die for our sins so that through Him we might be saved. He broke the chains of death. He unseated the ruler of this evil world and opened the door to heaven back up for all who would call upon His name.
Today, this Christmas Day, let us not just look at the nativity as a basic symbol of the holiday season. Let us gaze upon it and meditate upon that scene, remembering what God did to save us. Let us take it in and know, as much as we can, the deep love He has for us that He would step off His throne, humbly live among us, and then go to His death on the cross to save us.
He came to pay the price we couldn’t pay so we could have the life we don’t deserve.
By far, the best Christmas gift ever given.
