1 Corinthians 1:2 NIV To the church of God in Corinth, to those sanctified in Christ Jesus and called to be his holy people, together with all those everywhere who call on the name of our Lord Jesus Christ—their Lord and ours:
Paul, in writing to the church of God in Corinth tells them that in Christ they are part of ‘those everywhere’ who call on Jesus. In Christ we are all part of the same church body of those who call on the name of the Lord, those whom Jesus is their Lord.
I like how Paul was sure to add, ‘their Lord and ours.’ Jesus said in Matthew 7:21 that it’s not enough to just call Him Lord. He must be Lord of our lives and if He is Lord, then we must follow Him, submit to Him, surrender to Him, obey Him, and trust in Him as Lord.
Jesus Christ is the creator of all that there is. He is the Word of God. He is the Son of God. In the beginning He was with God and He is God. John chapter one explains this in clear detail. But there are two roads to take. To kingdoms to choose from so to speak. The Kingdom of God and the kingdom of this world of which Satan is ruler.
Jesus, although King and Lord over the heavens and the earth, over all that there is, will not force you to follow Him. He basically warns us that one Kingdom offers eternal life while the other eternal death and torment. While we are on this earth we have a choice to make. Which kingdom will we live for? Which kingdom will we give our allegiance to?
The kingdom of this world continues to repeat the original lie that led to the original sin. You can be like God. You can be master of your own life and fate. You can rule yourself. This is the lie that caused Eve to take that first bite into sin.
The Kingdom of God proclaims the absolute truth that there is only ONE true God. He reigns supreme. He is love. He is life. He is the alpha and the omega. The beginning and the end. He who became flesh and died on the cross defeated sin once and for all and He, having risen from the dead, defeated death and now lives forevermore. The first and the last. The living God worthy of all praise forever and forever AMEN!!!
The kingdom of this world offers pleasure for a moment and then promises eternal death and judgement in the lake of fire, separated from the presence of God forever and forever without hope of escape.
The Kingdom of God offers freedom from the shackles of sin, joy and peace everlasting for the moment and forever and eternal life beyond this world in the presence of the living God forever and forever without the fear and sting of death.
It’s our choice. He will not make it for you. We must all choose who we will follow.
Calling Jesus Lord is not enough if you are not following Him as Lord. But those who follow Him and truly trust in Him as Lord are sanctified and made holy through His righteousness.
What an awesome God He is. If you haven’t already, put your faith and trust in Him today. Be forgiven, saved and sanctified in Christ today.
May God’s blessings be upon you as you follow our loving Lord and God Jesus Christ.
